Since his undergraduate days at UCI mike has been an avid part of the Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP). Now as the Assistant Director of New Student Programs, mike organizes summer activities for New Student Orientation, advises the SPOP coordinators and volunteer staffers and teaches the White Identity and Racial Justice class through the Cross-Cultural Center. In his role with student leadership programs, mike serves as one of the advisors to the Student Life and Engagement House in Arroyo Vista, works on the development and implementation of the Core Leadership Competencies for UCI students and manages the Leadership Train, a search engine that aids students in finding leadership opportunities at UCI.

In 2006 mike earned his Masters degree in Higher Education and Organizational Change from UCLA where he held a Research Assistantship focused on diversity in higher education and pathways to college for underrepresented students. He earned his Bachelors degree from UC Irvine in Psychology and Social Behavior in 2003. He is currently working on completing his doctoral studies in Higher Education and Organizational Change at UCLA.  Prior to his current appointment in the Office of the Dean of Students, mike worked as one of the Apartment Life Coordinators at UCI’s Campus Village Housing. He has also worked for the Association of American Colleges & Universities in Washington D.C. in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Global Initiatives on a wide array of projects concerning campus diversity initiatives and civic engagement.

mike enjoys helping students discover the value of their own voices, perspectives, and lived experience and is committed to the principle that we are all equal partners as both teachers and learners on this campus.  He is continually inspired by the enthusiastic, creative and capable students at UCI and is grateful for everyday he is able to work with and learn from them.
