(*Campus-wide Honors Students, Athletes, and Students registered with the Disabilities Services Center can begin signing up at 9:00am on May 27, 2008.)

We are thrilled you will be joining us at UCI!

Freshmen
All new freshmen are required* to attend a Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP). Orientation for freshmen includes academic advising, class registration, information on campus resources, opportunities to make friends, a lot of fun and much more!
(*note: those who attend Summer Bridge or CAMP are not required to attend SPOP)

Transfer students
Transfer Students will receive academic advising for course enrollment throughout the summer through their academic counseling office, not through SPOP. Transfers seeking an orientation experience beyond academic advising can choose to attend either of the two optional Transfer Success Programs which will take place in September, 2008.

Placement Testing

UCI administers placement tests to new students to ensure correct placement in certain introductory courses. Not all courses require placement exams.

Tests are offered in chemistry, mathematics (calculus and mathematical analysis), physics, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Academic English. All necessary tests should be completed before you attend summer orientation so that you won't have trouble registering for classes.

There are 3 ways to complete placement testing:

1. Come to UCI and take all the tests you need! (This is the preferred method.) Tests will be offered at UCI the day before each orientation session begins. Click here for more information.
2. If you live in Northern California, you have the option of taking some tests in Berkeley on June 14. Click here for more information.
3. Make arrangements in your area at a Remote Testing Site to complete your tests. There will be a fee and this option takes time to arrange. Click here for more information.

Click here for more information on which test(s) you should take.

Make sure you write down which placement tests you need to take. You will sign up for these tests at the same time you sign up for summer orientation on the SPOP website.

Visit the Placement Testing website for further information. Questions? Call (949) 824-6207.

Also, please try to complete your financial aid package as quickly as you can.  It is possible for you to qualify for partial scholarships for SPOP, but only if your financial aid package is complete and you meet the scholarship need requirements.

You will hear from us again in late April on what to do to attend orientation via email AND US mail.  In the meantime, welcome again.  Please, be patient and watch for more info.

A Special Note to Parents

Welcome to the extended UCI family.  We recognize that you are an important part of your child’s transition to UCI.  As such, we will be offering a one day orientation for parents who would like to attend (it is not mandatory) on Day 2 of each of our SPOP programs.  Specific information for parents will be presented and you will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, meet other parents and get to know our campus better.

As we finalize information for the summer we will update this website.  Check back often for the most up-to-date information

If you have any general questions, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

If you have further questions, email orientation@uci.edu.
