Welcome to the UC Irvine info page for new student orientation! We are thrilled you are considering UCI as one of your college options. The Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is offered many times each summer in July and August for new freshmen. Transfer students have a special program (Transfer Success) for them in June and July. Here are the basics for now…check back on Februrary 1st for more information!
If you are a freshman, SPOP is mandatory. SPOP offers a comprehensive orientation to UCI. Academic advising, program planning and class registration are part of all the programs for freshman. Campus tours, social activities and meeting current and new UCI students are also a part of SPOP. You can attend SPOP with or without your parents/guardian ...whatever works for you!
(Students participating in CAMP or Summer Bridge do not attend SPOP)
The transfer experience at UCI should be positive and enriching, both academically and socially. The "Transfer Success" orientation seeks to promote this by exposing transfer students to the various resources and services available on campus. In addition, new students will have an opportunity to meet current UCI students and learn the "survival secrets" from the pros (our current students)! This is an optional program and does NOT include academic advising.
There is a fee to attend SPOP (2 day, 1 night program) and Transfer Success. Scholarships are available for SPOP students who qualify. Parents can participate, for a fee, on Day 2 of each SPOP. There will be special presentations and workshops just for them. Students stay in the residence halls for the one night and get a taste of on campus living (and food). Fees will be set by March 1st.

*Not all Academic Units will be in attendance at every SPOP date. Space is offered on a first come, first serve basis. Any student planning to attend Summer Session II or Freshman Summer Start Program should try to attend one of the first 4 SPOP's.
