Candlelight vigil, march and rally to raise awareness about and honor survivors of sexual violence. Following the march, participants journey through stations with visual displays and/or artistic performances addressing various aspects of sexual violence including societal factors that allow sexual assault to exist, its widespread occurrence and its devastating impact. The evening concludes with a speak-out, providing a forum for survivors to share their experiences of assault and recovery.

The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help with Jackson Katz
Thursday, May 8th, 7:00 PM, HIB 110

Jackson Katz is a leading anti-sexist male activist who is well published in the area of gender violence prevention specializing particularly in sports and military culture. He has lectured to many professional athletic teams and college athletic departments. He has also produced three documentaries related to gender violence. This multimedia lecture uses the title and structure of Jackson Katz’s important and highly readable book The Macho Paradox to explore some of the ways that male culture contributes to sexual and domestic violence, and to suggest strategies to enlist men in the fight against all forms of men’s violence toward women.

The UCI Womenfest is a one-day event featuring educational and informative booths, and a resource fair. The goal is to educate the community on the unique social conditions and issues that women face locally, nationally, and globally. This is an event to highlight and celebrate the contributions of women in our society as well as to explore the inequality and struggles that women have faced across the globe.

Education to Prison Pipeline Symposium: The Crisis affecting Chicano/Latino and African American Men.

Chicano/Latino and African men are more likely to see the grays of a jail cell wall than a college textbook. This symposium bringing scholars in the field, community organizers and students will discuss the connection between education discourse, policy and practice and the criminalization of Youth of Color.
